The Childcare Company has partnered with Male Childcare and Teaching Jobs (MCTJ) to launch an apprenticeship aimed at male childcare workers.
The Level 3 Early Years Educator (Men in Childcare pathway) apprenticeship aims to promote gender diversity, challenge stereotypes, increase male representation in childcare roles across the UK, tackle staff shortages and create inclusive environments for educators and learners. Currently, only around 2-3% of the UK childcare workforce is male.
“The Childcare Company is thrilled to be working with Male Childcare and Teaching Jobs to align our efforts in favour of gender inclusivity,” said Kelly-Marie Harris, chief growth officer at The Childcare Company. “Plus, with the introduction of our new learning pathway, we aim to facilitate more male representation in childcare and educational settings.”
“We’re passionate about challenging gender stereotypes and setting a standard of inclusion and acceptance for children across the UK,” said Claudio Sisera, MCTJ founder.
The 18-month programme, suitable for experienced childcare assistants and those looking to become room leaders or manage early years provision, will be delivered to cohorts of 15 learners. The pathway will include male guest speakers on topics such as Benefits of a Gender-Mixed Teaching Workforce.
It will also include specialist mentorship from experienced male educators to help build confidence and skills, networking opportunities within a supportive community of like-minded professionals, career progression support and practical experience.
As part of the Level 3 Early Years Educator (Men in Childcare) apprenticeship, learners will complete a Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Certificate provided by sister company First Response First Aid (FRFA), and a Level 2 Certificate in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
