Award-winning day nursery provider Tommies Childcare, has secured a six-figure loan to support the renovation of its Derby Thornhill Nursery, transforming it into a state of the art site.

Tommies acquired the site in Derby back in 2019, using a £1.65 million finance package from HSBC UK. However, when nurseries were forced to close at the start of last year due to Covid-19, Tommies decided to bring forward its planned renovation works and again turned to HSBC UK for financial support.

Matt Fooks, finance director at Tommies Childcare, explained:

‘We had originally planned to start the renovation project this year but when the pandemic hit we took the opportunity to bring forward our plans. As well as an extension and garden landscaping, the facility has enabled us to redesign our floor layout and kitchen, allowing free-flow access to our garden from the Pre-School room, alongside an indoor swinging chair which has created a unique reading space for the children.

‘The work at Thornhill is part of our wider business development strategy to expand across the Midlands over the next couple of years. None of this would have been possible without our Relationship Manager at HSBC UK, Will Simpson, who helped us realise our ambition.’

With renovations taking place throughout summer 2020, Thornhill Day Nursery has now officially begun welcoming children back, in line with the current Government guidelines.
