First time buyer acquires Coventry setting
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of The Playhouse Nursery in Coventry
Established in 1994, Playhouse Nursery is a ‘Good’ rated, ‘home from home’ community day nursery that caters for 33 children aged nought to five years. It is located in a former retail unit amongst a short parade of shops in the Coventry suburb of Styvechale.
The setting was previously owned by Mary Kefford who decided it was the right time to retire from the sector.
Following a confidential sales process with Jassi Sunner at Christie & Co, and with funding sourced through Lawrence Roberts at Christie Finance, it has been purchased by first-time buyer, Leicestershire Accountant, Anup Chauhan.
Mary Kefford, former owner of The Playhouse Nursery, commented: “After almost 30 years as a day care owner, I decided the time was right for me to retire. Through teamwork and good liaisons, we were able to achieve a sale with an agreed handover period which enabled a smooth transition with no disruption to either children, parents, or staff. It also helped me to step back offering support where necessary. It has been reassuring to know that I am leaving The Playhouse Nursery in a good position to thrive and continue the good work and reputation achieved.”
Anup Chauhan, the new owner of The Playhouse Nursery, added: “I entered into nursery ownership because of my passion for early childhood education, aiming to create an enriching and nurturing environment for children. The Playhouse Nursery appealed to me due to its established reputation for quality care and the team of dedicated staff. I look forward to adding fresh perspectives and insights to the nursery while maintaining the fundamental values that make the Playhouse a unique and cherished space for our little ones.”
Jassi Sunner, associate director – Childcare & Education at Christie & Co, stated: “Having benefitted from years of excellent reputation provided by my client, Mary, this was always going to be a heavily endorsed business coming to market. Despite being a smaller-than-average nursery, the appeal of its excellent reputation was clear, and we had a range of interest and multiple viewings arranged. A deal was agreed to first-time buyer, Anup, who showed his dedication to the business with various meetings with Mary who became comfortable selling to him. We wish Mary all the best with her retirement plans and hope that Anup can thrive with his first acquisition in the sector.”
Lawrence Roberts, director at Christie Finance, said: “Access to funding in most sectors requires an understanding of the lender market and who to approach, which is why was able to source the funding Anup needed to enter the day nursery sector. With more positive signs that the UK economy is moving forward in the right direction, both high street and challenger lenders are starting to support more clients, especially in the children’s day nursery sector. I know Anup will be a great success and I look forward to supporting him on his next purchase!”
The Playhouse Nursery was sold for an undisclosed price.
