Keep Britain Tidy launches early years eco programme

Keep Britain Tidy has launched an updated version of its Eco-Schools framework targeted at nurseries.

Eco-Schools, which has been running for 30 years, is the largest environmental education programme in the UK. Nurseries have been adapting the programme, which was designed for primary schools, but Keep Britain Tidy this month launched a bespoke framework for early years.

Keep Britain Tidy worked with nursery groups Storal, Bright Horizons and Childbase Partnership to develop the new framework and resources. The programme development was also supported by Diane Boyd, author of the DfE’s Sustainability Matters in Early Childhood.

Eco-Schools: Early Years includes updated branding, bespoke resources designed for under-fives and nursery practitioners, and access to free training and events.

“For 30 years, nurseries have been adapting the Eco-Schools framework, which has been designed largely for a Primary+ audience,” said Adam Flint, education manager at Keep Britain Tidy.  “Throughout 2024, we’ve worked with them to remove the need for adaptation, designing a bespoke new approach. Specific for little learners and nursery practitioners, the programme now features an updated framework, new resources, refreshed branding and a tailored training programme.”
