Kids Planet to operate University of Cambridge nursery
Following a rigorous tender process by the University of Cambridge, Kids Planet will be running the daily operations of the new Chris Abell nursery.
Opening its doors on 4th January 2022, the purpose-built nursery will provide childcare for the children of staff and students at the university.
The expansion into Cambridge marks the sixth nursery in the South for Kids Planet, bringing the total number of nurseries in the group to 83, since being established in 2008.
Clare Roberts, chief exec at Kids Planet Day Nurseries, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to take the Kids Planet brand to Cambridge and to be able to support the University by providing the outstanding level of childcare that has become synonymous within our group.”
The Chris Abell Day Nursery is named after Professor Chris Abell, who died unexpectedly in October 2020. Chris was chair of the Nursery Project Board, which he led with tenacity and enthusiasm and was instrumental in the University successfully commencing construction of the new nursery.
The Abell family told the University of Cambridge:
“Chris cared deeply about this project. He worked tirelessly to make the University somewhere staff and researchers felt supported; this is an enduring part of that legacy. We are delighted to see it open.”
The nursery will be open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Daily operations will be run by Kids Planet, but applications must be made via the University Childcare Office website.
