Government seeks sector champion to promote strategy

The government is advertising for a sector “champion” to promote its early years strategy.

The Best Start in Life Champion will promote the government’s early years strategy and the role of the early education and care sector to families, professionals, and policymakers.

The position will involve facilitating collaboration and building trust between the government and the wider early years system, and providing strategic advice to ministers and officials.

The role will take up 45 days a year for 18 months, with a salary of £450-£550 a day.

Appointing a Best Start in Life Champion was one of the commitments made in the Best Start in Life strategy, which launched in July 2025. The Department for Education said the role would “bring early years expertise into the heart of government” and “support the government in relentlessly driving forward this agenda”.
