The week ahead: 1 to 8 September

Don’t miss out! We’ll help you plan the next seven days with our round-up of everything that’s happening in the early years sector.

Ask the DfE about training

Do you have any burning questions about early years training? Foundation Years is running a set of short question and answer sessions with colleagues from the Department for Education. The first session will discuss Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Send in any questions about  supporting your own and the rest of your team’s development, then watch back the recording of the session with the panellists discussing answers. Send your questions to [email protected] by 6 September.

Find out about EYFS changes

Three changes to the EYFS come into force on 4 September. Jade Gilks, head of the Early Years Qualifications Unit at the Department for Education, sets out the changes in a vodcast alongside Wendy Ratcliff (HMI, Principal Officer for Early Years Education at Ofsted). They also tackle some frequently asked questions about what the changes mean in practice for settings.

Take part in National Read a Book Day

Every day is Read a Book Day in most nurseries, but the official National Read a Book Day is 6 September.  In the past settings have used the date to promote reading to families, dress up as favourite characters, or to take children on a visit to the local library  – some might be hosting special events.
