There are so many fantastic ways to develop classrooms that create a comfortable environment that fosters curiosity and independence, explains Kieran Meehan, product designer at Pentagon Play

First, can you detail your role and the reason for boosting your indoor offering to education settings more?

I am a product designer at Pentagon Play and specialise in the indoor market. I work on designing and creating all the new and wonderful products for Pentagon Play’s recently launched indoor range. As we are the leading company in playground design, we have taken our expertise, knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and used that to create brand-new one-of-a-kind classroom furniture designs for nurseries and early years foundation stage classrooms.

Can you explain the concept of your indoor range and the benefits?

The main thing we wanted to achieve with our new indoor range was to allow schools and nurseries to have flexible and versatile spaces. They can be used for all sorts of activities, as well as providing plenty of storage for learning resources. We achieved this by making our products stackable, meaning they can be configured in so many ways. This means the furniture is extremely versatile and easily changeable to suit your individual needs depending on your plans for the day.

What feedback have you had so far from clients?

So far, we’ve had some great positive feedback from all of customers. They love how all the products work so well together, and how they can easily change their space when they need to. The natural finish of the materials has also been extremely popular. Anyone who sees and uses the products is blown away by their versatility. They are simple but effective.

What are the benefits of utilising your learning spaces in a setting?

The main benefits of the learning spaces are definitely how adaptable to the customers’ needs they are. We have created spaces that can be used for a variety of different scenarios and purposes. Along with some pre-arranged set-ups, we offer a bespoke option where you can work with one of our consultants. This means you can be involved in creating a unique space for your classroom needs.

As a company, how have you set yourself apart in the market?

I believe we have set ourselves apart from our competitors by offering the highest-quality products on the market. All our products have been designed with durability in mind, to withstand the pressures of daily use. Our products are also crafted with flexibility and ease in mind, to make teachers’ jobs as easy as possible.

What would you say to those nurseries interested in your products but concerned about costs?

Investing in your learning space is something you will never regret. The impact of creating a healthy, positive and engaging learning environment can be life-changing for children, changing their viewpoint of education and encouraging an inclination to learn. I would say that if you are even the slightest bit interested in our products, they are definitely worth the investment.

We’ve studied the market and done a deep dive into what’s out there. We’ve really used our understanding to develop innovative classroom furniture that offers a solution like no other. All our products are versatile, hard wearing and multi-purpose. Pentagon Play goals over the next 12 months?

Over the next 12 months we’re looking to really cement ourselves in the indoor market. We are the top company in the industry for the outdoor market. We’d like to mirror that in the indoor market. We’re looking to continuously grow our product offerings, creating new and unique products and make ourselves a recognisable name in the indoor market, just like we’ve done with the outdoor.
