Busy Bees launches toilet training scheme

Busy Bees has developed a programme to help parents and children achieve successful toilet training earlier.

The initiative came about after Busy Bees practitioners found children were being toilet trained later post-pandemic.

Busy Bees’ research found that more than 80% of parents surveyed who have not yet potty trained their children said they would welcome additional resources and support, while a third felt worried about the process.

The Busy Bees Toilet Training scheme aims to support children who show signs of readiness to transition out of nappies more quickly by equipping practitioners and parents with engaging, hands-on activities that prepare children to use the potty.

It includes fun games to get children used to underwear instead of nappies,  vocabulary-focused play that prepares children to communicate their need for going to the toilet, and role play that helps children to sequence the stages of going to the toilet. There are also resources for practitioners to support them to facilitate quicker toilet training.

Deena Billings, quality director at Busy Bees UK, said: “By launching this dedicated scheme, we hope to educate parents and further support practitioners to spot the signs children might be ready to start toilet training sooner, helping to encourage their development.”

As well as supporting young children’s healthy development and school readiness, the initiative aims to help parents save money and reduce the amount of nappy waste.

Busy Bees Toilet Training launched earlier this year in settings in Wiltshire and Kent, before rolling out nationwide from this month.
