Five-setting Northwest nursery group sold to Bright Stars

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of The Cheshire Day Nursery group

The Cheshire Day Nursery group comprises four nurseries and one kindergarten which occupy eye catching extensive freehold and leasehold properties which, over the years, have been sympathetically modernised to make the most of their original features and create first class environments for all the children attending. All settings sit in premium locations in and around the North West of England, including Latchford, Winwick, and Thelwall.

Founded in 2000 by sisters Julie Mannering and Brenda Burling, this nursery portfolio has a combined operating capacity for c. 464 children aged 0 – 5 years boasting a growing annual fee income of over £3 million.

Julie and Brenda recently decided to look at selling the group to pursue a well-earned retirement from the sector. Following a confidential sales process, The Cheshire Day Nursery group has been sold to Bright Stars Nursery Group, one of the largest highly acquisitive nursery operators in the UK.

Julie and Brenda commented: “We are both delighted that we have found a fantastic home for our nurseries after 20+ years in running the settings. We were very focused on making sure that when we did sell we left the all the staff, children and parents in very good hands and we feel we have done this with Bright Stars. Like any sales process this has been an eventful journey but we wish Stephen and all of his team at Bright Stars the very best and hope they continue to build on what we have achieved over the years. We would also like to thank Nick from Christies for his support and advice throughout the process.

Speaking on behalf of Bright Stars, Stephen Booty added: “We are delighted to have acquired Cheshire Day nurseries and the 4 wonderful nurseries will add significantly to our presence in the North West. The nurseries have built a strong reputation for outstanding childcare. We look forward to working with the staff, the parents, their children and continuing to build on the legacy of Julie and Brenda.”

Nick Brown, director & head of brokerage – Childcare & Education, who handled the sale, commented: “It’s such a great feeling to be able to help two owners retire from the childcare industry knowing that they are passing on a premium business to the new buyers. I have known both Brenda and Julie for a long time and they have put their hearts and souls into providing the highest levels of childcare from some fantastic buildings. This is a market setting deal which shows that buyers are super keen to acquire the best settings in premium locations. I would like to wish them all the best in their retirement, and I am sure Bright Stars will thrive from all these settings and over time we shall see their footprint in this area continue to grow.”

Cheshire Day Nurseries was sold for an undisclosed price.
