Kingfisher Day Nursery, which has an effective operating capacity for 104 children, occupies a historic building with plenty of character and original fittings, offering open space with a range of different playrooms across three floors. The business has recently undergone a change in management and is now benefiting from an uplift in reputation.
The nursery holds a prominent position on a busy route in and out of the city of Derby and amongst suburban residential housing.
The business was previously owned by Kingfisher Day Nursery Ltd, a five-nursery group operator based in the East Midlands, and was sold as part of a group restructure.
Speaking on behalf of the company, director, Mrs Helen Allanson, commented: ‘I bought the nursery 12 years ago and have worked hard to transform the building into an open, light-filled space with excellent care and learning opportunities. I intend to continue working with the other four settings for the next few years.’
Kingfisher Day Nursery has been purchased by expanding nursery operator, Babblebrooke Limited. This is the operator’s second setting alongside Babblebrooke Day Nursery in Loughborough. The operater is keen to continue its expansion.
Jassi Sunner, associate Director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, added: ‘The Duffield Road setting of Kingfisher Day Nurseries is a fantastic building with historical features. There is a lot of space to grow the business further and it benefits from a prominent location in and out of the city.
‘When Helen approached us to find a purchaser, we knew there would be a range of interest and the marketing did not disappoint, with 28 enquiries in a short period of time. Ultimately the new lease sale to Babblebrooke Limited was the most attractive option to our client who retains the freehold investment. It was a pleasure to work with Helen and we look forward to working with her again in the future. Best of luck to Babblebrooke Limited with their second setting and new venture.’
