Kids Planet bury Covid-19 themed time capsule

To mark the end of an extremely turbulent year, Kids Planet Widnes decided to create time capsule.

Staff and children from Kids Planet Widnes collaborated this month to assemble and bury a Covid-19 themed time capsule. The time capsule captured a current and relevant period not only for Widnes but the for the rest of the world.

The capsule, which contains a range of Covid related items including a Covid test, a timeline of the pandemic as well as pictures created by the children of the nursery during lockdown and photos of families isolating at home,  was buried in the nursery grounds of the listed Kingsway building, marked with a stainless-steel plaque.

Reflecting on this year is extremely important to fully understand what our society had to go through. Our mental wellbeing has been put to the test, our children have suffered from periods of lockdown and our frontline workers have pushed themselves to the limit to care for children and also their families.

While creating the time capsule, the children can be a part of marking history and when it is finally dug up, other children can explore what those before them went through.

Catherine Mark, baby room practitioner at the nursery based on Victoria Road in Widnes said: ‘We are all so proud to have been able to stay open throughout the pandemic, providing crucial childcare for keyworkers and vulnerable children, not only for the children from the nursery but for children across the borough. We wanted to mark a piece of history at the nursery to reflect this historical occasion.’

The nursery, awarded Ofsted Outstanding, currently has places available for babies through to preschool. For more details about the Kids Planet group visit https://www.kidsplanetdaynurseries.co.uk/
